Batik is out, ‘corp shirts’, baju kurung/headscarf and baju Melayu are in for Johor civil servants

JOHOR BARU: Johor civil servants will no longer have to wear batik shirts on Sundays following a new dress code directive from the state government.

Instead of batik, the new circular issued states they should wear their “corporate shirts” every Sunday, according to a statement from the Johor Secretary’s Office.

A corporate shirt for the Johor civil service has the state government’s coat of arms and the logo of the respective department.

For departments that do not have corporate shirts, then they should use office clothing.

“For state civil servants who are non-Muslims, the state government is still maintaining office attire (for them) from Monday to Thursday.

For Muslim state civil servants, on Sundays, all males have to wear corporate shirts while females have to wear traditional Malay dress called baju kurung, complete with headscarves.

From Monday until Wednesday, male civil servants have to wear office attire while females have to wear the baju kurung and headscarf.

But on Thursdays, male civil servants should wear the the full Malay traditional attire called “Baju Melayu Teluk Belanga” complete with a “Samping Berdagang Luar” and a songkok.

“All Johor civil servants should follow the new dress code guideline while on duty at offices,” the statement read, which was signed by Johor State Secretary Datuk Azmi Rohani.

Johor has its weekends on Fridays and Saturdays.
