PETALING JAYA: The Crown Prince of Johor has announced an affordable housing programme for Johoreans under the auspices of the Sultan Ibrahim Foundation.

A non-profit project, the ‘Rumah Impian Bangsa Johor’ would be a single or double-storey terrace house with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

Prices for the single-storey terrace will start at RM70,000 while the double-storey terrace will be priced under RM200,000.

To be eligible for the affordable homes, applicants must be Johoreans, have a household monthly income of below RM5,000, must not be the eldest or only child and must not own other property.

“His Majesty the Sultan of Johor decrees for a fair distribution amongst Malays, Chinese and Indians. His Majesty intends to build a strong social spirit,” Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim said in his announcement on Facebook Sunday (Oct 21).

Tunku Ismail said the foundation will appoint a project manager and contractor to build the houses in accordance with Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar’s specifications.

“The people will receive amenities such as a multi-purpose hall, a park, shops and a motel which will be built and funded HM Sultan of Johor and HRH Crown Prince of Johor,” he added.

He said there would be a stringent selection process using a computerised vetting system and the selection committee will include the Secretary of State and the Sultan Ibrahim Foundation board members.

The Sultan Ibrahim Foundation is an effort by the Johor Royal Family to ease the burden of the people.
