Johor to woo Airbus to set up MRO operations in the state

KULAI: Johor wants to entice one of the world’s leading aerospace corporation, Airbus, to have its commercial planes maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) operations here.

State International Trade, Investment and Utilities Committee chairman Jimmy Puah Wee Tse said that the trip was under the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) to European countries such as Italy, France and Germany.

He added that the meeting was organised by Malaysia-France Chamber of Commerce where they would meet Airbus officials in Paris as well as visit their plant in Toulouse and their aerospace industrial park.

“This is a good opportunity for us to promote our MRO here where Airbus able to service their planes in Johor.

Wee pointed out that both sides have been discussing the matter for the past two months.

“There are still many things that must be discussed between the two parties on what we can offer them but Johor has a unique ecosystem for foreign investments,” he added.

On another matter, Wee also said that the state government would make a special announcement on a major investment deal for the oil and gas industry in Pengerang.

He added that between August and November, he would be making seven overseas trip for trade investment opportunities for Johor. The countries are Singapore, Taiwan, China, Japan, Korea, France and India.

“There will be a ‘sizeable’ investment for Johor in the oil and gas industry.

“I met them in Tokyo where a consortium of several countries have shown great interest in investing here,” he said, adding that the announcement would be make by Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian either at the end of this year or early 2019.
