Man who berated beer promoter apologises

PETALING JAYA: The man who berated a beer promoter inside the non-halal section of a hypermarket in a video that went viral recently has apologised to the victim.

“I would like to apologise publicly to all Malaysians including the female promoter.

“I admit my fault and I regret my actions towards the promoter,” he said in a 45-second video clip posted on Twitter on Tuesday (Nov 20) night.

The man, who identified himself as Edi Rejang, added that he hoped the issue would not be dragged on any further.

In a separate 45-second video posted on Twitter, Edi was seen in a press conference together with Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng.

In that video, he was also seen apologising for his actions towards the beer promoter.

He had said that his actions on that day was “spontaneous” and that he had “no intention to be racist” towards the woman.

Edi also said that he admitted his mistake for berating the woman.

On Monday (Nov 21), a video clip of a shopper berating a beer promoter for giving out beer samples in the alcohol section of a hypermarket went viral on social media.

In the video, the girl had remained calm even though the shopper scolded her and demanded to know if she was promoting the beer to “anyone”, including Muslims.

As the promoter was about to defend herself in English, he criticised her and insisted that she speak in Bahasa Melayu because this is “Bumi Melayu”.

The man then made an obscene hand gesture and spewed vulgarities at her before walking away.

The promoter could be heard in the video saying, “You are hilarious.”
