Protect children against scams

JOHOR BARU: Parents should play a more active role to protect their children against Macau-style scams.

State police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said it was the duty of parents to keep their children informed of such issues.

“Constant parent-child communication is important because depending on the police alone is not going to be good enough,” he told reporters after launching the Johor Police Family Association (Perkep) House at the state police contingent headquarters here yesterday.

Comm Mohd Khalil was responding to a statement by Selangor head of commercial crime investigation department Asst Comm Harjinder Kaur who said that university students were being targeted by Macau scammers.

“As for Johor, we have yet to receive reports on such cases but we are always on the alert.

“We have set up an awareness programme through social media to educate the public,” he said.

On the event, Comm Mohd Khalil said Perkep had been assigned with the task of helping out in the event of floods during the monsoon season.
