Let Google Assistant help you with your Messages

Most of us have done this at least once when messaging – exiting the app to Google something, copy the link, paste it on our conversation thread, and then continue with the chat.

If you’re an Android Messages user, soon that practice would be a thing of the past.

Google announced that it is introducing the Assistant feature to Messages – the standard text messaging app available on Google’s mobile operating system. With the Assistant, users can receive information about movies, restaurants and weather without having to exit the conversation.

According to the statement, the Messages app uses the AI capability on the device to offer suggestions that are relevant to your conversation.

Wait … what about the user privacy? Google doesn’t address that in the statement, instead saying that the information isn’t sent to the Google Assistant until users make the request to find out more about a topic.

Once you get the information, you can decide to share it in your conversation thread.

The new feature will be rolled out in the coming months for English users around the globe.

Earlier this year, the Assistant feature was introduced to the Google Maps app, allowing users to request for music, search for places along their route or add new stops with just their voice while using the app.
