Four children arrested in drug raid

JOHOR BARU: A gun and 60 bullets kept inside a sling bag are among the items seized from 10 people suspected to be involved in a drug distribution racket.

Four of them were children, two boys and two girls, aged between six and 12.

Johor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Kamarudin Mohd Din said besides the four children, three men and three women – aged between 19 and 34, were detained during the 1am swoop at a single-storey house in Taman Pelangi Indah here yesterday.

He said police also seized 504g of ganja, 345g of white powder, believed to be drugs, 84g of heroin, 10g of syabu and 48 Ecstasy pills. The drugs are valued at about RM11,208.24.

“We are still investigating the case, including whether the children are being used to distribute the drugs,” he said.

DCP Mohd Kamarudin said other items seized were four mobile phones, eight vehicles, including a Toyota Vellfire, a Mitsubishi ASX, a Mitsubishi Triton and a Honda Accord, and RM50,000 in cash.

He said initial investigations showed the syndicate had been operating for the past one year.

“Three suspects tested positive for drugs and have previous criminal records for drug-related offences.

“All the suspects have been remanded for six days to assist in investigations,” he said.

DCP Mohd Kamarudin said the case would be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Section 8 of the Firearms Act (Increased Penalty) 1971 and Section 8(a) of the Firearms Act 1960.
