Police probing three men over land scams

BATU PAHAT: The three of them are friends who have been working in the same district land office for many years and know all the loopholes within the system.

With access to the land database, they were able to identify idle land in their district.

Teaming up, they prepared fake documents showing such land as seized land and available for agricultural lease.

With the documents in hand, the trio set off looking for clients.

However, their ruse was discovered when eight victims, who jointly paid more than RM300,000 to lease the land, lodged police reports alleging that they had been duped.

The victims had discovered that others were toiling the land they had leased and that the documents given to them (the victims) were fake.

The victims, mostly businessmen, claimed they paid between RM20,000 and RM130,000 for the plots of land ranging between 2.2ha and 3.2ha.

Police have classified the case under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

It is learnt that the state land office has transferred the three men out of the district and assigned them to desk duty.
