Two more detained in Sg Kim Kim chemical dumping incident

PASIR GUDANG: Police have arrested two more people over the Sungai Kim Kim chemical dumping incident here.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said that both suspects were believed to be responsible for allowing the transportation of toxic material.

“This is an additional arrest. Earlier, we had arrested nine people. All the suspects are between the ages of 27 and 41.

“We have also released one suspect after initial investigations revealed that the person is not connected to the case,” he told reporters at Menara Aqabah here on Tuesday (March 19).

He said that the two suspects were arrested in the Pasir Gudang area, and they will be remanded until March 27.

Comm Mohd Khalil also said that the police had confiscated a lorry that have been used to transport toxic material to Sungai Kim Kim.

“We will try to wrap up this case as quickly as we can because it is in public interest,” he added.

He said that the case is being investigated under Sections 278, 284 and 326 of the Penal Code.
