StarProperty.my Awards 2019: A celebration of builders and ideas

THE StarProperty.my Awards Night 2019 brought together renowned property developers, industry experts, bankers and stakeholders from across the nation under one roof. The event was more than a celebration; the many interesting personalities and perceptive minds spoke of what it takes to achieve success and facing tomorrow’s challenges. Here are some of their comments:

Johor Land Bhd planning and project development vice president Razif Abdul Rahim believes in integrity, teamwork and customer orientation as prerequisites to achieving success. “We have to be more creative and innovative in our product offerings and marketing strategy,” he said.
Ideal Property Group COO of business development division Datuk Goh Teng Whoo pointed out that house buyers prefer locations that have nearby amenities such as schools, medical centres and leisure outlets. He attributed the success of his company to team spirit and professionalism.

Echoing Goh’s remarks, Jesselton Waterfront Holdings Sdn Bhd executive chairman Tan Sri David Chu said the success of a company is not a one-man show. “The important thing is teamwork, the sharing of knowledge and having the most reputable contractors for our projects,” he added.
For the hotel and hospitality sector, Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur senior director of marketing Nelson Hilton said guests sought out hotels where the staff members make them feel special and comfortable.

“Four Seasons has perfected this service at all our global destinations. It doesn’t matter which country or property; we adhere to the same philosophy for all our guests,” he said. Chin Hin Property Development COO Shelly Chiau Yee Wern is positive towards the government’s home ownership campaign, saying there will be rebates to benefit buyers. “The rebates will help home owners with the cost of renovation,” she said.

Sharing a quote from Sun Tzu’s The Art of War, Trinity Group Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Neoh Soo Keat said: “Know yourself, know your enemy and you will win a hundred battles.” He reckons it is vital to know the market and connect with customers who want your product. “We must use innovative ways to reach them,” he said, adding that the current market is still good as developers are meeting the needs of customers.

KLK Land Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk David Tan Thean Thye said the current owner-occupier market will continue to be challenging.
“Developers have to be careful and need to conduct in-depth analysis. They must closely monitor local and regional market conditions,” he said.
On the subject of technology, Ivory Properties Group Bhd chairman Dr Asairinachan Kunjamboo believes that construction, residential safety and lifestyle will be affected by the latest advancements.

“If developers were to incorporate these three features into their projects, they will find it easier to sell to potential customers,” he said.
“Technology is part and parcel of our lives, so we have to embrace and take advantage of it to attract the new generation who are future buyers,” said Naim Holdings Bhd managing director Datuk Hasmi Hasnan.

On the matter of affordability, Sunsuria Bhd COO Simon Kwan said the company decided to introduce affordable products into the market, such as a three-bedroom apartment that’s priced below RM300,000 when it is usually above. “We believe in meeting the needs of customers,” he added.
