IBM appoints new MD for Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: IBM has appointed Catherine Lian (pic) as the new managing director of IBM Malaysia, effective yesterday.

She will report to Patricia Yim, general manager of IBM Asean.

In a statement, the company said Lian brought with her over 20 years of experience in information technology, coming from Dell Technologies where she held various management roles across Asean and South Asian markets including Malaysia, South Korea, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, China, Bangladesh, Indochina and Cambodia.

She was formerly the managing director of Dell Indonesia. She has been recognised for overachieving business targets, and enabling clients to succeed.

According to the statement, Lian is a strong advocate for women in leadership: she has mentored young professionals and was part of the women’s entrepreneur network in her previous role. She graduated from the Universiti Utara Malaysia with a degree in Economics.As managing director, Lian will be responsible for the business growth and leadership of IBM in Malaysia, building on the strong collaboration with clients, partners, the government and communities.
