Google reveals what Malaysians are searching for during Ramadan

Google is sharing the most popular search topics among Malaysians during the month of Ramadan.

The search engine noted Malaysians love looking for the best Ramadan bazaars in town. Specifically, going to the Ramadan bazaars with must-try seasonal offerings or specialty dishes that they can’t find anywhere else.

The top five trending Ramadan bazaars in 2019 according to searches done by Malaysians on Google are located in Shah Alam (Selangor), Taman Tun Dr Ismail (Kuala Lumpur), USJ 4 (Selangor), Putrajaya and Cyberjaya.

When it comes to popular recipes, it seems that most Malaysians want to learn how to make “ayam masak merah”, “nasi ayam”, “ikan siakap”, “rendang ayam” and perhaps as a preparation for the upcoming Hari Raya celebration next month, “kuih raya”. Google said that classic recipes would often make a comeback as a trending search topic during Ramadan.

Malaysians also love searching for topics to help them look stylish for Hari Raya. The top five trending style topics are “tudung bawal”, “tudung shawl”, “tudung labuh”, “baju raya” and “baju Melayu”.

Google observed that men are more likely to search for colourful and trendy selections for baju Melayu while women are looking for the best head scarf designs to pair with their baju kurung or kebaya outfits.

Well, don’t be surprised if you see people wearing Avengers superhero-inspired outfits for Hari Raya.

What’s a Hari Raya celebration without some songs? Malaysia’s top three Hari Raya songs for 2019 are Dendang Perantau originally performed by the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee, Ku Pohon Restu Ayah Bonda by Mamat and Seloka Hari Raya, a duet by Uji Rashid and Hail Amir.

Though we’re only two weeks into the fasting month, Google said these songs serve as a reminder about the upcoming festive celebration. Muslims in Malaysia began observing the fasting month on May 6 while Hari Raya celebrations will fall on June 5-6.
