Balik kampung? Tell the cops

JOHOR BARU: With the coming Hari Raya exodus, many homes will be left empty.

Now, house owners can notify the police of their absence via the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) app.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd urged those planning to balik kampung to notify the force by either going to the nearest station or more conveniently, using the VSP app.

“This will make our task easier in distributing manpower and sending patrol teams to areas where many owners may have gone back to their hometown,” he said after attending the state police monthly assembly yesterday.

VSP is a mobile app based on the police’s older system, Rakan Cop, which was SMS-based.

With this app, the public can record and report any criminal activities they witness, complete with photos and videos, to the police.

On another matter, Comm Mohd Khalil said 275 suspects, including 20 individuals on the wanted list, had been arrested for various drug offences under Ops Pemutihan Khas on May 25

The special operation was carried out in conjunction with the Hari Raya celebrations and school holiday starting May 19 and would end on June 4.

“We have also confiscated various kinds of drugs – 268g heroin, 288g syabu, 68g ganja, 0.6g ketamine, eight Ecstasy pills and 11 Eramin 5 pills with a total value of RM18,016,” said Comm Mohd Khalil.

He said the operation was aimed at tracking down individuals involved in drug offences and other criminal cases, including house break-ins, property crime and thefts.

“The police will continue to keep a close eye so that this year’s Hari Raya will be safe and smooth,” he said.
