TM to migrate Streamyx users to Unifi Lite at RM69 a month; offers Unifi Air as alternative

Telekom Malaysia (TM) has officially unveiled its wireless broadband plan – Unifi Air – as a solution for Streamyx users in areas with no Unifi fibre broadband coverage.

The plan, which comes with unlimited data with an average speed of 20Mbps (megabits per second), is priced at RM79 a month for existing Streamyx customers while new users will have to pay RM129.

Unifi acting executive vice president Moharmustaqeem Mohammed said it’s expected to be available to over 35,000 users across 28 LTE areas nationwide.

Customers on its Unifi Home Wireless Broadband plan with a 60GB data quota will also be given the option to switch to Unifi Air without a data cap.

The Unifi Air plan comes with a wireless modem that the company claims can connect up to 64 devices simultaneously.

Starting from Sept 1, TM will also be switching Streamyx customers to Unifi Lite at RM69 a month. New customers can also sign up for Unifi Lite for RM89 a month.

Internet speed will be up to 8Mbps – the same speed as the fastest Streamyx plan.

TM explained that moving forward, Unifi Lite will be the only copper-based plan still offered by the company.

Moharmustaqeem described Unifi Lite as an “interim solution for loyal Streamyx customers” while they wait for Unifi fibre network to be available in their areas.

The company will also be embarking on an ambitious initiative that promises to dispatch a technical assistance team to a customer’s house within two hours after a request is made.

The team, dubbed Elite Squad, will start serving customers from October onwards in Georgetown and Butterworth in Penang, Pantai Dalam and Bangsar in Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam in Selangor, and Johor Bahru.
