106 illegal immigrants nabbed in operation

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested 106 illegal immigrants following a massive operation here.

Acting City police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Roslan Bek Ahmad said on Aug 15, the operations were carried out among others at the Pasar Borong Selayang, Chow Kit, Bandar Tasik Selatan LRT station, Segambut Pusat, Mile 3 1/2 Jalan Ipoh, Pasar Seni, Jalan Padang Belia, Vivekananda and Wisma Indah.

“A total of 184 personnel were involved in the raid which was focused on illegal immigrants.

“We checked a total of 208 foreigners throughout the raid and arrested 106 for various offences,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Aug 18).

He added that the foreigners arrested were from Myanmar (43), Bangladesh (32), India (12), Indonesia (nine), Nepal (five), Nigeria (two), Sri Lanka (two) and Pakistan (one).

“We are investigating those arrested for entering or leaving Malaysia without a valid pass or permit under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

“All those arrested were brought to the Jinjang, Dang Wangi and Cheras lock-up for further action following the standard operating procedure,” he said.

DCP Roslan said police viewed the matter of foreigners flooding the city and contributing to crimes seriously and will continue to take action against them through such operations.
