MB promises to help Indian community

JOHOR BARU: Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal (pic) has given his assurance that he will serve people of all races in the state fairly and no one will be left out.

Asked about issues plaguing the Indian community in the state, including in Tanjung Piai, he said he had already appointed two special officers to handle the issues.

“I also have an Indian state executive councillor. Bring your problems to these people, ” he said after unveiling his plans for the upcoming state budget 2020, which would be announced on Nov 21.

Asked about the two special officers, he said they were from PKR and an announcement would be made soon.

Among the issues being debated during the campaign period were the delays in the opening of three Tamil primary schools which were already constructed.

They are SJK(T) Tun Dr Ismail in Simpang Renggam, SJK(T) Bandar Sri Alam in Johor Baru and SJK(T) Ladang Niyor in Kluang.

Other issues include the appointment of the Johor Mentri Besar’s special representative for Indians in the state.

There is also a delay in the RM1.4mil project to build a complex to perform the last rites for Hindus in Pasir Gudang.

On the state budget, Dr Sahruddin said the state government would have more than 170 focus points that would be addressed, including emphasis on education and developing human capital.

He added that the budget was drafted based on feedback from the people involving issues such as education, human capital, cost of living, environment, economy, infrastructure and the running of the government.

Asked about goodies that might be offered in the state budget, he said there were specific items for farmers, fishermen and women, including a bonus for state civil servants.

On the by-election, the Mentri Besar is upbeat about the chances of Pakatan Harapan winning the seat, this time with a higher majority.
