Lim denies threatening civil servants

PONTIAN: Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng has denied allegations that he threatened civil servants during a ceramah two days ago.

“The opposition said I criticised civil servants and also threatened to not pay their salaries. What evidence do they have?” he asked during the mega ceramah in Kukup here tonight.

The DAP secretary-general was responding to a video on social media which claimed that Lim, who was speaking in Mandarin, had allegedly said civil servants refused to work with Pakatan Harapan ministers.

Lim said despite the allegations, the federal government still approved a loan of RM191.5 million for 2018 and this year for Kelantan to help pay for the salaries of government workers there.

“We work hard to help solve problems. We don’t threaten to not pay their salaries,” he added.

Earlier today, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin downplayed the issue, and said although he had not seen the video, he was informed about it today.

“I don’t think (Lim) was criticising. Maybe some of them (civil servants) have yet to understand us,” he said at a press conference.
