KLCI gives up more than Monday’s gains

KUALA LUMPUR: It was a disappointing start for Bursa Malaysia on Tuesday as the FBM KLCI gave up more than the previous day’s gains with plantations, banks, IHH Healthcare and Tenaga Nasional among the losers.

At 9.24am, the KLCI was down 8.31 points or 0.52% to 1,596.05. Turnover was 276.32 million shares valued at RM124.83mil. There were 150 gainers, 194 losers and 270 counters unchanged.

Asian shares started Tuesday softer as another day awaiting clearer news on the progress of US-China trade negotiations weighed on jaded investors’ sentiment, Reuters reported.

MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan fell 0.1%. Japan’s Nikkei was 0.2% lower in early trade. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 index was flat and trading volumes were light. E-Mini futures for the S&P 500 fell 0.05%, although that followed another record-high close on Wall St on Monday.

At Bursa, foreign funds turned net buyers on Monday at RM61.40mil while local retailers were net sellers at -RM13.8mil and local institutions at -RM47.60mil.

HLFG fell 32 sen to RM16.78 with 100 shares done, HL Bank lost 18 sen to RM16.62 and Public Bank eight sen lower at RM19.80.

KL Kepong and PBB Group slipped 20 sen each to RM22.34 and RM18.06 with 100 shares done each.

Petronas Gas lost 22 sen to RM16.46. Bumi Armada shed 0.5 sen to 52 sen with 18 million shares done and KNM one sen lower at 43 sen.

IHH Healthcare fell 12 sen to RM5.44, snapping two days of gains. A notice of contempt has been issued to Fortis by the Supreme Court of India in relation to its decision to buy back hospital assets from Religare Health Trust (RHT).

Tenaga Nasional lost 10 sen to RM13.60, MFCB 10 sen lower also to RM4.65.

BAT fell 20 sen to RM16.30 but Nestle added 20 sen to RM144.30.

G3, which hit limit-down on Monday, rebounded 34 sen to RM2.91 and its warrants climbed nine sen to RM2.60.

Pharmaniaga added 14 sen to RM2.41 after confirming the concession to the government was extended.

Mi climbed 10 sen to RM2.56 in rising volume while MISC added nine sen to RM8.34.
