Police detain 41 football supporters after Malaysia v Indonesia match

KUALA LUMPUR: Polis detained 41 football supporters, including 14 Indonesians, for documentation purposes, after the pre-World Cup match between Malaysia and Indonesia at Bukit Jalil National Stadium last night.

Cheras police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Mokhsein Mohamed Zon said all the individuals were released after the documentation process.

“A total of 27 local supporters and 14 Indonesian supporters were detained for documentation purposes. All of them have been released after we processed them,” he said in a statement.

Last night, some Malaysian fans tried to provoke Indonesian supporters soon after the final whistle by gathering in front of Gate E of the stadium which was dedicated for the supporters from the neighbouring country.

At the time, there were still some Indonesian supporters inside the stadium as they tried to avoid confrontation with Malaysian supporters outside.

Federal Reserve Unit personnel were put on alert especially at the stadium grounds to avoid any commotion.
