Johor police deny restricting operating hours of eateries, petrol stations

JOHOR BAHRU, March 20 – Johor police have denied issuing directives on the Movement Control Order (MCO) ordering restaurants, petrol stations and convenience stores in the state to close between 7 pm and 7 am.

Johor police chief Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said a purported police announcement on this was false.

He advised the people to verify any information received before sharing it.

“Johor police can confirm that we have received information on a fake announcement which has gone viral on social media. The false announcement is about certain directives, which the Johor police chief never issued,” he said in a statement today.

The fake message claimed that even the drive-through counters of restaurants would be affected by the directive.

Ayob Khan reminded the people that under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, legal action can be taken against anyone who shared false information. — BERNAMA
