Landmarks, Keck Seng join peers in suspending hotel operations

KUALA LUMPUR: LANDMARKS BHD, the operator of The Andaman luxury hotel in Langkawi, and KECK SENG (M) BHD joined a growing number of hotel and resort operators worldwide to suspend their operations due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Landmarks, in a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, said the move to temporarily close its resorts and leisure operations in Malaysia and Indonesia was effective immediately.

Landmarks is the owner and operator of Treasure Bay Bintan Island in Indonesia.

“This drastic decision is a direct result of the Covid-19 pandemic which has caused serious and significant disruption to both domestic and international travel,” it said.

The group said the health risks caused by the pandemic and the containment measures imposed by the government has given a huge negative impact to the business operations of the company’s resorts.

“The company’s management is closely monitoring the situation with a view to recommencing operations bearing in mind that the safety of patrons is paramount. In the interim, the company is prudently implementing cost control measures,” it said.

Meanwhile, plantation and property firm Keck Seng (M) Bhd said today the group’s hotel operations in the US and Canada were temporarily suspended.

For Tanjong Puteri Golf Resort in Johor, Keck Seng said the resort continues to service guests who are staying at the resort prior to the Movement Control Order.

“All non-essential resort services and facilities have been suspended in accordance with the MCO,” it said.

Keck Seng said it is currently unknown when operations are planned to resume.

“Overall, these factors will reduce the net cash flows generated in 2020. The Hotels and Resort Division may require financial support from the holding company,” it said.
