Four fined a total of RM70,000 for selling unauthorised Android TV boxes and AV equipment

Four individuals and their companies were fined a total of RM70,000 by the Sessions court for selling unauthorised Android TV boxes and AV sender equipment.

Media Home Enterprise owner Chen Kar Seng was fined RM40,000 after he pleaded guilty to owning 146 unauthorised Android TV boxes with the intent to sell.

MSB Technology (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd director Ow Kee Foo along with Hing Fook Young and Tan Kim Sia were fined RM30,000 after they pleaded guilty to selling seven units of unauthorised AV senders.

Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) enforcement and investigation head Datuk Mohd Shafie Harun said the AV senders were not approved and against the MCMC technical standards, and also carried the wrong certification label.

The cases were investigated under the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000, and all items that were seized in the two cases have been handed to MCMC to be disposed.

Shafie said MCMC will continue to take action to prevent the use of unauthorised communication devices in Malaysia and reminded the public to only purchase and use devices with the MCMC label.

He urged them to check the Sirim website for more information or download the Check Your Label mobile app to verify the authenticity of their devices.
