Johor seeks more time to tackle pollution issue

ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Johor government needs more time to discuss the best course of action in addressing the pollution problems in Pasir Gudang, says Aminolhuda Hassan.

The state Education, Human Resource, Science and Technology Committee chairman said several suggestions were brought up for discussion during last week’s state executive councillors’ meeting.

He said one of the suggestions was to move industrial areas to another location.

“We have yet to come up with a decision.

“These are among suggestions given to the state government but we need more time to decide on a better plan that can suit all, including the people and industries in Pasir Gudang,” he said when met after attending the International Data Corporation Smart City Pacific Award here yesterday.

He added that the government would have to study the development there in a more holistic manner to ensure that it had a positive impact on the people’s safety and health.

He said they would also need to call up experts to conduct research and consider all aspects.

Aminolhuda said for now, it was important to get the public to report suspicious activities on pollution to the relevant authorities.
