Shopee records over 300% more orders in 1H2020 on strong demand for home and personal care products

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 14): Online shopping platform Shopee recorded over 300% more orders during the first half of 2020 compared to the previous year.

In a statement Aug 13, Shopee regional nanaging director Ian Ho said the platform had 20 million app downloads and 38 million monthly web visitors in the second quarter of 2020.

He explained that the exponential jump in orders was from strong demand for Home and Personal Care products on its platform.

“As much as we are focused on growing our consumer base, our platform is also dedicated to the success of our sellers and brands,” he said.

One such brand is Oxwhite, a lifestyle brand for men and women with its signature men white shirt for men.

Oxwhite founder CK Chang said while the firm is doing well on its our own platform, it realised that there is ample space to grow.

“At present we are selling nine product categories on our e-commerce site.

“Our fastest moving product category is apparel and this includes items such as casual tees and innerwears,” he said.

Chang said Oxwhite partnered with Shopee to introduce other products such as bamboo towels, men’s trunks, briefs, laundry detergents, sanitisers and polo t-shirts.

“With this partnership, Oxwhite is looking to boost its revenue by 5% exclusively from marketplaces,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ho said Shopee was built to enable sellers and brands to succeed in e-commerce.

“In order to encourage customer purchases, Shopee subsidises the delivery charges for customers.

“It also runs free courses to help sellers sell their products better through Shopee University which has over the years groomed more than 30,000 entrepreneurs and businesses across the country,” he said.
