China should make Malaysia main investment destination

SERDANG: China should see Malaysia as the main investment and trade destination, in line with the change of the latter’s administration which saw a more transparent government.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in expressing his stand said Malaysia made history on May 9 when it successfully changed the country’s political landscape, taking over the administration from Barisan Nasional (BN) that had been at the helm for over 60 years.

“We faced various challenges and made changes as Malaysians have had enough with racial and corruption issues.

“We are building a new Malaysia this time around,” he said in his keynote speech after accepting the Special Welfare Award in conjunction with the China Global Forum here today.

Also present were Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, WCEF organising committee chairman Tan Sri Dr Michael Yeoh and co-chairman Nga Kor Ming; and the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to China Tan Kok Wai.

Anwar, who is the eighth prime minister in-waiting, said he was undeserving of any awards or appreciation as he was humbled by the success by his peers in changing the country’s leadership.

“There are many others like Lim Kit Siang (Iskandar Puteri member of parliament and DAP leader) and others who had worked hard and contribute to the country.

“I spent a lot of time resting in jail,” he said, drawing laughter from the audience.

Anwar, who is PKR incoming president, said the changes brought by the country’s leadership were reflected in the society stratification when there was no longer issues which touched on overlaying of racial elements.

Such positive development, he said, was due to the cooperation and willpower displayed by Malaysians who were willing to set aside their differences in attaining the good of all by changing the government.

“As what the Prime Minister (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) had said, we must share this success and acknowledge the role played people of multi races and ethnics in the country,” he said.
