Sime Darby appoints Abdul Rahman as chairman

KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Bhd has appointed Datuk Abdul Rahman Ahmad as non-independent and non-executive chairman of the conglomerate.

In an exchange filing today, Sime Darby said Abdul Rahman, 50, has been re-designated from the previous non-independent director to non executive chairman, effective today.

Abdul Rahman had joined Sime Darby as a director in September last year. He was president-cum-group chief executive officer of Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB).

PNB is a major shareholder with 51.1 per cent stake in Sime Darby.

PNB had in August announced the departure of Abdul Rahman and appointed fund manager Invesco’s Jalil Rasheed to succeed him.

Abdul Rahman left PNB upon the completion of his three-year contract on September 30.

He was assuming the role of non-independent non-executive chairman at Sime Darby upon the retirement of Tan Sri Dr Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Abdullah on October 31.

Sime Darby is one of PNB’s key strategic companies in which PNB owns a 52 per cent stake.
