Grab to only accept cashless payment for rides between 2-6am

Nearly all untoward incidents on Grab rides happen during cash bookings particularly at night, reveals the ride-hailing company, prompting it to disable cash bookings in the early morning hours.

In a press statement, Grab stated its data indicates there is up to four times more crime reported at night compared to during the day.

“Moreover, in the past year, up to 99% of all incidents occurred on cash bookings,” it adds. It did not specify whether the victims of these incidents were drivers or passengers.

As part of the updates relating to passenger and driver-partner’s safety, cash bookings on most Grab rides between 2am and 6am will be disabled.

JustGrab (from Airport) and GrabCar Exec (to and from Airport) bookings will not be affected.

Grab explains that passengers will still be able to book a vehicle, but will then be required to pay using GrabPay wallet or a debit/credit card.

The company adds that beginning Nov 6, cashless rides will be implemented in stages across Klang Valley.
