Four Tamil schools in Johor to open soon

SIMPANG RENGGAM: Four Tamil schools that could not start the new term last week are slated to open their doors by next month or March.

The construction of these schools had already been completed, said state Unity, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Dr S. Ramakrishnan.

“They are just waiting to get the necessary approval from the relevant agencies and departments.

“Hopefully, they can start either in February or March when the pupils can relocate to the new buildings, ” he said during a visit to SJK (T) Tun Dr Ismail here yesterday.

The four schools are SJK (T) Bandar Sri Alam in Johor Baru, SJK (T) Ladang Niyor in Kluang, SJK (T) Jalan Tajul in Kota Tinggi and SJK (T) Kulai Oil Palm in Kulai.

The Star had previously reported that several Tamil schools in the state were facing construction delays. There are about 70 Tamil schools in Johor.

Ramakrishnan noted that SJK (T) Tun Dr Ismail had faced similar problems, including delays in its construction.

“SJK (T) Tun Dr Ismail received a letter from the Education Ministry that it could move into the new building on Dec 31.

“Due to this, only seven new pupils have registered for the new school term, ” he said, adding that more students would register there in 2021.

He thanked Simpang Renggam MP Dr Maszlee Malik who had helped to speed up the application process of the school during his time as the education minister.

Ramakrishnan said two more Tamil schools were needed in Layang-Layang and Senai.
