Five apps to help you stay calm and connected during MCO

You don’t have to feel isolated or stressed as you observe the movement control order (MCO), as you can use apps and games to stay in touch virtually, or help you relax.

Here are five apps for Android smartphones and iPhones to get you started.

Houseparty

Video chat app Houseparty has a built-in feature for games like Quick Draw, Heads Up and Trivia.

Compete on Trivia to find out who is the expert on pop culture. Or find out which friend can’t draw the clue for Cat in Quick Draw.

It’s free-to-play but some games require in-app purchases.

Zenly

Location-sharing app Zenly now has a Stay At Home challenge which tracks the amount of time users spend at home by analysing their location data.

The app will let you and your contacts know if you have spent 100% of the day at home or not.

There’s even a leaderboard to keep track of how others in your circle are doing.

To see how Malaysia is doing compared to folks in other countries, check out the World Effort leaderboard.

AntiStress Anxiety Relief Games

This app has a selection of simple games designed to help users relax. Take your pick from Spinner (which is basically a digital fidget spinner in different colours), Bubble Burst (pop bubbles endlessly) and Flip Card (find the matching cards).

There’s even a timely game called Smash Coronaa, where you stop viruses from infecting earth by just tapping away on the screen.

The app is free but comes with ads.

Ambience – Nature Sounds: Relax and Sleep

Achieve a sense of calm through a selection of relaxing sounds like Nature, Ocean and Zen Garden.

You can play up to three sounds at a time and set a timer, which is handy if you are using the app to fall asleep.

You can also use the sounds to accompany relaxation activities like meditation.

It’s free but contains ads and an upgrade to a premium version.

MyOasis

MyOasis is described as an “ideal clicker game” where users just have to sit back and tap away to watch an oasis expand into an island filled with animals, mountains and more.

You can collect Hearts to upgrade the island by playing a simple musical note game and click on the meditation guide to hear a soothing voice to help you relax as you explore the game.

You can also change the weather or remove animals you are not fond of to create a zen-like environment.

It’s free but offers in-app purchases for those who wish to upgrade faster.
