Bursa Malaysia continues uptrend at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 22 ― Bursa Malaysia continued its uptrend at mid-afternoon today on mild buying support in selected blue chip counters led by Genting Malaysia.

At 3.05pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 0.41-of-a-point higher at 1,706.96 from yesterday’s close of 1,706.55.

On the broader market, losers outpaced gainers 397 to 396, with 373 counters unchanged, 562 untraded and 21 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.80 billion shares worth RM1.44 billion.

Of the heavyweights, Genting Malaysia rose 15 sen to RM5.35, Petronas Chemicals improved seven sen to RM7.40, IOI Corp added five sen, while Maybank and CIMB gained two sen each to RM8.42 and RM5.10 respectively.

Among actives, Hibiscus Petroleum and IFCA MSC both bagged 1.5 sen to 52.5 sen and 52 sen, Dagang Nexchange inched up half-a-sen to 39 sen and its warrant was one sen better at 10 sen.

The FBM Emas Index ticked up 8.03 points to 12,034.99, the FBMT100 Index was 3.86 points higher at 11,710.19, the FBM70 garnered 8.52 points to 13,935.11 and the FBM Ace rose 7.28 points to 5,387.68.

The FBM Emas Shariah Index, however, shed 2.05 points to 12,518.08.

Sector-wise, the Finance Index climbed 16.31 points to 15,048.95, the Plantation Index bagged 4.36 points to 8,010.31 and the Industrial Index advanced 1.99 points to 3,280.68. ― Bernama
