Dr M: Dyson wants to bring more investment into Malaysia

LONDON: British home appliances developer and manufacturer, Dyson, has indicated an interest in bringing in more investment into Malaysia.

This was expressed by Dyson founder and innovator, Sir James Dyson, to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad during a visit to Imperial College London on Monday morning, where the two had a private meeting.

Dyson has a manufacturing plant as well as the Dyson Malaysia Development Centre in Johor.

Speaking to the media after a visit to the Turbochargers Group laboratory at Imperial College London, Dr Mahathir said increased investment would help reduce the unemployment rate among Malaysia’s PhD holders.

The prime minister was also briefed on the collaboration between Imperial College London and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in the area of low carbon transport and energy recovery.

The two universities have launched a joint centre, named the UTM Centre for Low Carbon Transport In Cooperation with Imperial College London (LoCARtic), which is based in Skudai, Johor. The centre has been expanded to a second site in Pagoh, Johor and has continued to attract significant research funding.

The centre has also received funding for two projects on energy recovery.

During a briefing at the Turbochargers Group laboratory, Dr Mahathir also met LoCARtic director, Srithar Rajoo and Dr Muhammad Izzal Ismail, who is a research associate at Imperial College London. Both men are Malaysians.

The prime minister also met Malaysian students based in Imperial College London.
