Forest City developer picks up award at global forum on human settlements

KUALA LUMPUR: Country Garden Pacificview (CGPV) Sdn Bhd, the master developer of Forest City, picked up the Global Model of City-Industry Integration Award in Bangkok today.

The recognition was bestowed on the developer during the the 2018 Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements Awards (SCAHSA). This is the third time Forest City has represented Malaysia and won in SCAHSA.

Last year, it won the Global Model of Green Building Industrial Park award for its Industrialised Building System (IBS) Base.

In 2016, it clinched the Global Human Settlements Award on Planning and Design award.

The awards presentations are a highlight in the Annual Sessions of Global Forum on Human Settlements, which is being held for the 13th time.

This year’s two-day forum is jointly organised by the Global Forum on Human Settlements and United Nations Economic And Social Commission For Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

As a global platform for sharing innovative approaches and solutions, strategies and technologies, the forum this year gathered city mayors, UN senior officials, community leaders and 500 stakeholders from the private and public sector worldwide.

Country Garden Malaysia and Forest City director of strategy, Ng Zhu Hann said rapid urbanisation poses many challenges, but this could be tackled with scientific and technological advances that can help with urban planning and development.

“Sustainability is a big word but this philosophy carries a huge responsibility which includes developing the world with the future generation in mind.

“Malaysia is a diversified emerging industrial economy in Asia. If industry and property developers can integrate sustainable urban development concepts into their urban planning, it will elevate Malaysia’s property and construction industry to an international standard,” he said.

He said CGPV’s move to build a RM730 million IBS facility, which is the largest of its kind in southeast Asia, was in line with the developer’s aim to practice sustainability in Forest City.

“We are proud to represent Malaysia at a global stage once again and this UN-linked award recognises Forest City and our effort in building a city, which is an industrial and integrated development.”

Also present at the forum were the event chairman Anwarul K. Chowdhury, Country Garden Holdings Co overseas division vice-general manager Dr Kelly Wang, Governor of Krabi Province of Thailand Pol Lt Col Kitibodee Pravitra, Prince of Thai Royal Family Hongjoo Hahm, and UNESCAP independent senior advisor Dr Ralph Wahnschafft.

SCAHSA award winners are recognised for their achievements in the transformation of cities and the fostering of innovation to manage growth and create high-quality, resilient and sustainable urban development.
