Huawei and edotco getting Malaysia 5G-ready

KUALA LUMPUR: edotco Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd has showed proof-of-concept of its digital solution to raise data coverage and throughput speed to be 5G-ready from the current 4G technology.

“Celcom, Digi, U Mobile and Maxis have fully integrated into this Small Cells solution that have been deployed and have begun providing enhanced coverage and connectivity for their users passing through KL Sentral,” said edotco chief regional officer Wan Zainal Adileen Wan Puteh.

He added the collaboration with Huawei emphasises the group’s commitment towards sustainable infrastructure that can support future mobile user requirements.

Wan Zainal and Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) chief executive officer Baker Zhou today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), witnessed by Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) chairman Al-Ishsal Ishak and MCMC head of digital and ecosystem sector head Datuk Mohd Ali Hanafiah Mohd Yunus.

Also present were Huawei president of small cell product line Ritchie Peng and edotco group corporate affairs director Azizul Abdul Rahman.

After the signing, the media was taken on a guided tour of edotco and Huawei’s in-building solution that enhances the mobile user experience of the thousands of commuters who pass through the concourse of train station Kuala Lumpur Sentral daily.

This two-year partnership leverages on both parties’ expertise to develop viable go-to-market strategies, commercial offerings, technical architecture as well as deployment plans.

edotco is in the business of providing end-to-end solutions in the tower services sector such as tower leasing, and operations and maintenance, while Huawei is an information communication technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart device provider.

Both edotco and Huawei are committed to facilitate mobile network operators to benefit from a full spectrum of indoor and outdoor mobile network solutions.

“MCMC encourages and facilitates industry players to create a network of sharing with cutting edge technologies within Malaysia as we embrace a digital economy,” said Al-Ishsal.

“At the same time, we work towards minimising duplication and making resources more efficient,” he added.

Al-Ishsal’s colleague Mohd Ali Hanafiah said as a technology adopter, Malaysia has, over the decades, followed through on the technological evolutions from the adoption of 2G, 3G and currently 4G.

“When the international protocol for 5G is finalised next year, we will continue to follow suit with the best practice and procedures that fits our country and stakeholders,” he added.
