KFC Malaysia ties up with SoCar of South Korea

PETALING JAYA: KFC Malaysia has partnered with SoCar, a South Korea-based car-sharing application, to introduce 12 additional SoCar zones in selected KFC outlets in Kuala Lumpur and Johor Baru.

QSR Brands (M) Holdings Bhd, the franchisee of KFC Malaysia, described the partnership as a “unique opportunity” for the fast-food chain and expects the collaboration to provide a further push in its marketing initiatives.

A total of seven SoCar zones will be introduced in selected KFC outlets in Kuala Lumpur, while the remaining five will be located in Johor Baru. With the 12 new locations, the total number of SoCar zones in Malaysia has risen to 475.

“Car-sharing is the most recent addition to contemporary urban life and it has been progressively transforming the lives of our community. Through this partnership, we are encouraging the smart mobility movement that we optimistically believe is the future.

“At the heart of it, we are making use of the technologies available to continuously enhance the convenience of our customers,” said QSR Brands managing director Datuk Seri Mohamed Azahari Kamil.

Following the partnership, customers of KFC and SoCar will be able to enjoy bonus rewards such as SoCar discounts, complimentary SoCar hours and KFC Delivery e-vouchers during the campaign period between Dec 5, 2018 and Feb 28, 2019.

KFC Delivery customers will also enjoy SoCar discounts for the duration of the campaign. With a minimum spend of at least RM40 (including delivery fee and 6% service tax) in one transaction, customers will be able to enjoy RM40 off their next SoCar booking (excluding BMW and Mini Cooper).

The participating KFC outlets equipped with SoCar zones can be identified with in-app markers and users will be offered a 20% discount off all bookings made from these outlets.

Unlike current ride-share services which function like taxis, SoCar provides short term car rentals, starting at 30 minutes.

According to its site, users can rent the car using its Android or iOS app for as low as RM8 an hour, which includes 30km worth of petrol, though an additional 0.25 sen per-km will be charged after the first 30km.
