Veterans to receive RM500 aid

ARMED forces’ veterans will receive a one-off RM500 cash incentive ahead of the fasting month and Hari Raya Aidilfitri, says Mohamad Sabu.

The Defence Minister said under the Bantuan Harapan Negara 2019, a total of RM79.68mil has been allocated for the initiative.

He said the new aid would replace Bantuan Bakti Negara 2017 and Sumbangan Veteran Pencen 2017 initiatives under the previous government.

Mohamad said these were among ongoing efforts to recognise the contributions, loyalty and sacrifices of the armed forces’ veterans.

“Although facing financial challenges, we will try to find a way to look after the welfare of our veterans,” he said in his closing speech on the motion of thanks to the royal address.

Mohamad said the initiative would benefit 159,368 armed forces veterans, regardless of whether they were receiving pension or not.
