QR codes on T-shirts provide easy access to course info

PETALING JAYA: Visitors Germaine Odelia Chong and Nichole Lee Boon Fei were surprised to find out that they could scan the QR code on SEGi University’s student ambassadors’ T-shirts for more information on

the courses offered. For easy access to more detailed information on courses available at SEGi University and Colleges, marketing executive Blake Tay Yu Xiang said visitors could download the SEGi mobile application – available on iOS and Android – and scan the QR codes printed on the shirts of SEGi’s student ambassadors working at the fair.

“Once visitors scan the QR code using our mobile app, it will direct them to information on courses

and enable them to get the latest updates.

“Scanning the code can also lead students to the Career Test and Guidance, which is managed by the university,” he said.

SEGi College Kuala Lumpur chief executive Sri Jaiandran said they received many questions from students in Forms Two and Three.

“They are keen to know the type of programmes we offer, what the trending jobs today are and the future of jobs they are interested in.

“It’s commendable that they are serious about their future,” he said.

Engineering, business and information technology (IT) were among the most asked about programmes, Sri added.

Multimedia University marketing and communication division national marketing and enrolment manager Karen Tan Mei Lin said scholarships were a hot topic during the fair.

She said they also received enquiries about their popular courses such as IT, creative multimedia and law.

“I think IT is popular right now because we see a trend with artificial intelligence and augmented reality being in demand in the future,” she said.

Most of the questions came from parents because although the child chooses the course they want to pursue, the parents are the real decision-makers, she said.
