Analyst: Tough times ahead for new MB
JOHOR BARU: The new Johor mentri besar, whoever it may be, will not help solve all problems faced by Pakatan Harapan. The person may even make things more difficult, says a political analyst.
The analyst, Dr Mohd Akbal Abdullah, said this was due to a lack of leaders available within the ruling Pakatan state government, and this was apparent in Datuk Osman Sapian’s administration.
“Johor did not mature (politically) under Osman in his 11 short months as mentri besar where he made many unfavourable decisions as a leader,” he said here yesterday.
Mohd Akbal said whoever becomes the next mentri besar, the individual would have plenty of issues to settle and needs to work under intense pressure and high expectations.
Mohd Akbal does not view Dr Sahruddin Jamal, who is now state Health, Environment and Agriculture Committee chairman, as a replacement for Osman.
“Dr Sahruddin is still new to politics and he is a greenhorn compared to the others who are also eyeing the same position. And it may be hard for him to get the respect from state Pakatan leaders,” he said.
