Johor police seek Interpol’s help
KULAI: The police have sought Interpol assistance to track down the owner of the used tyre-processing company allegedly involved in the Sungai Kim Kim pollution incident.
State police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said the owner is believed to be a Singaporean, in his 30s.
Johor police had earlier sought their Singaporean counterparts to track down the man in connection with the toxic waste pollution case.
“We have sent all the documentation to our Singapore counterparts with regard to the case,” he said after attending a school policing programme at SK Polis Kem here yesterday.
Comm Mohd Khalil previously said the man was on the wanted list and they were waiting for the Singaporean authorities to arrest him.
So far, 11 people had been detained for questioning and three were charged in court on March 24 under Section 34B(1)(A) of the Environment Quality Act 1974.
They were two used tyre-processing company directors and a lorry driver.
On a separate matter, Comm Mohd Khalil said the police were working closely with the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAIJ) to check radical teachings by religious groups.
“We are watching them closely,” he said when asked to comment on the arrest of three Hizbut Tahrir Malaysia members in Johor Baru on April 6.
The group had been listed as deviant teaching by JAIJ.
