Hibiscus unit gets positive update on Cook oilfield

PETALING JAYA: Hibiscus Petroleum Bhd’s unit, Anasuria Hibiscus UK Ltd, says it has received a “positive update” on the progress of the recovery of the Cook oilfield.

According to Hibiscus, the operator of Cook Joint Venture Ithaca Energy (UK) Ltd said that the Cook Water Injection Project had been drilled to a total depth of 13,045ft of measured depth on May 2.

Anasuria Hibiscus, along with its partners in the Cook field, had sanctioned the Cook Water Injection Project which involved the drilling of a water injection well into the Cook field to increase its reservoir pressure, after which a subsea pipeline would be installed in the second half of the year.

This subsea pipeline would link the water injection well to the Anasuria floating production, storage and offloading vessel, it said.

“Since then, the reservoir pressure has declined, and thus, the water injection well has been designed to repressurise the reservoir to maximise recovery from the Cook field,” it said.

“In drilling the water injection well, the reservoir pressure at the injection well location was found to be as predicted and the water injection well would now be completed to provide pressure support to the Cook P1 production well. Additionally, the oil water contact is deeper than originally anticipated,” it added.

Hibiscus said the implications of a deeper oil water contact, while potentially positive, are still being evaluated and an announcement would be made when the detailed work has been completed to establish the latest reserves estimate in the Cook field.

The Cook field is one of four producing fields in the Anasuria Cluster located offshore the United Kingdom Continental Shelf. Cook Joint Venture comprises Ithaca (61.4%), Anasuria Hibiscus (19.3%) and Ping Petroleum UK Ltd (19.3%).
