Operations continue as usual in Genting Highlands after fire put out instantly, no injuries reported

PETALING JAYA: The fire that broke out in Genting Highlands was instantly put out and no one was injured in the incident, says Resorts World Genting.

Resorts World Genting said it was informed that a fire had occurred at its multistorey escalator located between Genting Grand and First World Hotel at approximately 6pm Monday (July 1).

However, it noted that customers were quickly ushered away by the resort’s fire respond team who were at the scene.

It said the area was also immediately cordoned off when the fire happened.

“The fire brigade was at the scene within 10 minutes and the fire was put down instantaneously.

“The management has reported that no one was hurt and that the resort is not affected by the incident as the area is located at an isolated area. All operations continue as normal,” it said in a statement on Tuesday (July 2).

On Monday (July 1), videos of a fire at an escalator in Genting Highlands went viral on social media sites.

The seven-second and 13-second videos showed the fire engulfing the landscaping that had plastic flowers near the escalators.

Genting Highlands Fire and Rescue Department officer Yusry Abdullah Sani had also said that the cause of the fire was being investigated by its forensics unit.
