PM: Difficult to fix specific date for handover to Anwar

PUTRAJAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has reiterated that the handover of the premiership is an issue that has not been discussed, and that fixing a specific date for this to take place is difficult.

The Prime Minister said the power transition between him and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would depend on how much he was able to accomplish.

“We have to study the situation.

“It will be difficult to fix a specific date (when) the work is half done or not done,” he said after launching the Security and Public Order Policy on Tuesday (Oct 3).

During a dialogue while attending the United Nations General Assembly recently, the Prime Minister said that he might have at most three years and would bow out before the next general election.

However, PKR veteran Dr Syed Husin Ali said that one could not hold Dr Mahathir to his word, as the latter had a tendency of saying one thing today, but another the next.
