10 Malaysia top tech startups shortlisted for Create@Alibaba cloud startup contest

KUALA LUMPUR: Alibaba Group Holding Ltd recently launched the Malaysia finals for its inaugural Create@Alibaba Cloud Startup Contest, offering a chance for Malaysia top tech startups to connect to a network of key China-based venture capitalists, business leaders and the Alibaba Group ecosystem.

The ceremony was graced by Kapten (Dr) Zulfikar Zulkifli, a representative of Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Dato’ Mohd Azis Jamman.

Of the 10 finalists and evaluated by a panel of seven international judges, the winner will then represent Malaysia to a global championship where the startup will compete with other leading technology players across the world.

The finalists are Adev Ventures Sdn Bhd, Ibizzcloud Sdn Bhd, SPBC Consultancy, Hostastay Bhd, Sureplify Sdn Bhd, Gobuilders Netsoft Sdn Bhd, Happy Fish Swim School Sdn Bhd, IO Fitness Management (M) Sdn Bhd, Modencare Sdn Bhd and Ticket2U.

The winner can also leverage Alibaba Innovation Centre, where they can use ecological resources for enterprise development provided by Alibaba cloud computing, to incubate SMEs in the digital economy.

The event is organised by IHZ International with co-organiser, HuaZong Multimedia and Information Committee.

Create@Alibaba chief coordinator Kim Tan said startups participating in Create@Contest have all been hand-picked to participate in its highly competitive startup competition.

“They all presented in front of multiple groups of venture capitalists (VC) and tech leaders serving as judges for a chance to connect with key business leaders and VC’s in Europe and China.

“The winner will also get a sponsored trip to the Alibaba Group headquarter in Hangzhou and enjoy international media exposure, besides winning up to resources worth USD50,000,” he said in a statement.

Kim said the Create@Contest is the best platform for Malaysian tech startups to unleash their potential and attract global attention, especially from interested investors.

Participants will also get access to the Alibaba ecosystem to help them gain valuable insight, experience and resources to expand their businesses.

This is also in line with the Malaysian government’s aspirations to promote stronger growth in the local start-up scene, Kim added.
