Contraband ciggies and booze seized

KLUANG: Police have seized 35,750 cartons of contraband cigarettes, 4,080 bottles of liquor and vehicles worth RM8.4mil in two raids in Ulu Tiram, here.

Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department deputy director Comm Datuk Zainal Abidin Kasim said the raids were conducted in Jalan Kempas Lama shortly after midnight on Sunday and at 10.30am in Taman Indah Bestari.

He said a General Operations Force (PGA) Batallion 5 patrol team on crime prevention rounds spotted a vehicle entering an oil palm plantation in the early hours of the morning and decided to follow it.

He said police raided the premises and found 385 boxes containing 19,250 cartons of cigarettes and 171 boxes containing 2,052 bottles of liquor.

Police arrested two suspects there.

Comm Zainal Abidin said the two suspects later led police to a house in Taman Indah Bestari.

At the house, police arrested another two suspects, both aged 50.

They found another 330 boxes containing 16,500 cartons of cigarettes and 169 boxes containing 2,028 bottles of liquor.
