Cops nab six mat lajak, parents

PETALING JAYA: Six mat lajak, along with their parents or guardians, were detained by police.

The minors, aged between 11 and 16, were arrested for riding “basikal lajak” or mosquito bicycles in Ampang at 8.51pm on Sunday.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Noor Azmi Yusoff said police brought the children and their bicycles to the Pandan police station.

Their parents or guardians were contacted and subsequently detained under Section 33 of the Child Act 2001 for negligence, he said.

“They were released on police bail after their statements were recorded, ” he said.

ACP Noor Azmi said the children were issued summonses and allowed to leave with their parents or legal guardians.

Meanwhile, he said the basikal lajak were impounded under the Road Transport Act 1987.

“We will forward the matter to the deputy public prosecutor soon, ” he said.
