Cabinet reshuffle: PM has the last say

SEVERAL Cabinet ministers and deputy ministers said they will continue to serve and allow the Prime Minister to make the “best decision” in the event of a Cabinet reshuffle.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Liew Vui Keong said Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had the last say.

“It is the power of the prime minister. If you are the boss, you will decide,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby.

International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Darell Leiking said: “We are so busy trying to improve the economy and meeting the people to make sure that Malaysia is doing well.”

Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Sim Tze Tzin said Dr Mahathir had the “wisdom” to choose who could best serve the people.

Sim added that there was also a consensus in Pakatan Harapan that the Prime Minister would pass the baton to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok asked reporters to direct the question to Dr Mahathir.

“Ask the PM, not me. That is more interesting. Every day, you (media) goreng (write) about the same issues,” she said.

PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said Lim Guan Eng should be the first to go in the event of a Cabinet reshuffle.

“I believe that many have done their own polls and survey.

“Within an hour, thousands support that the Finance Minister should be removed,” the Kubang Kerian MP told reporters.

He cited reasons including the imbalance of funds between regions allocated under the Budget 2020 and that his (Lim) excuse of blaming the previous government for all problems.

“When a new government takes over, they have to take over the burden and focus on the future, not look at the past. We admit there are weaknesses but we must move forward.”
