Cooperative business continues to grow despite challenging times – Angkasa

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 — The cooperative business sector is expected to continue to grow and remain competitive despite the current challenging economic conditions, said Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (Angkasa) president Datuk Abdul Fattah Abdullah.

He said this was because the cooperative business have an existing ‘capture market’ as well as the strength of a large scale market network.

“In the context of ASEAN, for example, we have 65 million members of the cooperatives so it’s a pretty big market, and with more than 1.5 billion members globally.

“… and this is evident during the economic downturn that the cooperative movement has survived it and that is why our cooperative institution have been around for more than 100 years,” he said after appearing as a guest in ‘Ruang Bicara’ programme produced by the Bernama News Channel (BNC) last night.

Meanwhile, Abdul Fatah said 180 booths – both of local and foreign cooperatives – would participate in the Malaysian Carnival Cooperatives Products & Services (MACCOPS) 2019 to take place at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre, Johor Bahru, from Nov 28-30.

Among the participating cooperatives from abroad include those from Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, China, Thailand, Korea, Vietnam and India.

The fourth edition of the carnival aims at providing the best platform for collaborative efforts between local and international cooperatives as well as multinational companies. — BERNAMA
