KLCI slips on last trading day of 2019

KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI fell in early trade on Tuesday, the last trading day of 2019, with banks and Tenaga Nasional the main drags.

At 9.25am, the KLCI was down 8.86 points or 0.55% to 1,606.81. Turnover was 321.85 million shares valued at RM143.38mil. There were 170 gainers, 220 losers and 273 counters unchanged.

Asian stocks are set to slip in thin trading on the last day of a year that has delivered spectacular returns across asset classes. The dollar held declines against peers, Bloomberg reported.

Equities in Sydney fell with volumes more than 30% below average. New Zealand ended down. Hong Kong futures slipped. Several markets including Japan are shut for holidays, while some have shortened trading sessions.

At Bursa on Monday, foreign funds were net buyers at RM42.9mil while local institutions were net sellers at RM18.3mil and retail investors at RM24.6mil.

Nestle fell RM1.10 to RM147, Hong Leong Bank 22 sen to RM17.38, KL Kepong 20 sen to RM24.90 and Public Bank 18 sen to RM19.90.

Tenaga lost 12 sen to RM13.42, IHH eight sen to RM5.62 and Maybank seven sen to RM8.65.

However, TDM extended its gains, rising 2.5 sen to 43 sen with 39.89 million shares done.

Eonmetall climbed 11 sen to 43 sen, Cypark nine sen to RM1.47, BAT eight sen to RM15.52 and Saudee seven sen to 33.5 sen.
