JOHOR BARU: Visit Johor Year 2020 officially kicked off with the ‘Harbour Celebration’ at the Marina Puteri Harbour in Iskandar Puteri here, last night.

Launched by Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Sharuddin Jamal, the event was co-organised by the state government (through Tourism Johor) and UEM Sunrise.

The bash saw a range of activities held, including the Disco Santan, a Samba Show, a meet-and-greet session with mascots from Legoland Malaysia and the Angry Birds Park; as well as Visit Malaysia Year 2020 mascot Joh and 20th Sukan Malaysia (Sukma) mascot Jimi.

Johor will host Sukma this year.

Tourism Johor director Zihan Ismail said that the celebration marked the start of a campaign to publicise the state’s upcoming tourism programmes and destinations to be visited.

“Various promotional, front-liner-strengthening and information delivery programmes on Visit Johor Year 2020 will be taking place in the first quarter of 2020.

“Among them are ‘Mesra Malaysia’ for front-liners in the tourism industry, such as personnel from the Immigration Department, the Customs Department and the hotel industry; improvement of our website and social media platforms for the delivery of information; and preparations of packages for inbound tourism,” said Zihan,

“Also, on Jan 1, Tourism Johor, in collaboration with district offices, local councils, operators of Johor entry points, Tourism Malaysia and the state office of the Tourism and Culture Ministry, will hold a welcoming ceremony for tourists who enter the state through 13 entry points.

“There will be a Johor cultural performance and presentation of gifts to tourists,” he added.

The entry points are Stulang Laut jetty, Puteri Harbour jetty, Pasir Gudang jetty, Muar jetty, Kukup jetty, Tanjung Pengelih jetty, Tanjung Belungkor jetty, Larkin Sentral, Senai International Airport, Skudai toll plaza, Tanjung Kupang toll plaza, JB Sentral and Lucky Garden terminal.

“The success of the implementation of Visit Johor Year 2020 depends on cooperation between all industry players, related departments and agencies like Tourism Malaysia, non-governmental organisations like the Johor Tourism Association and the Malaysia Hotel Association, media practitioners and products owners,” Zihan added.
