MCO: Maxis and Digi announce free additional Internet data for users
Maxis has announced some initiatives to helps users who are staying home during the movement control order (MCO) period.
Users on Maxis, Maxis Business and Hotlink postpaid plans will receive a free 3GB mobile Internet pass that can be subscribed to via the MyMaxis, Hotlink Flex or MyMaxis Biz apps. The pass will be valid for 30 days and users can only claim it once.
They can also get free data usage for connectivity applications like Skype, Zoom and Microsoft Teams. These offers, including the free 3GB mobile Internet pass, are only available from March 27 onwards.
Hotlink prepaid users can get free 20GB with selected HotlinkMU purchases (available from March 23), 30% cashback credits with digital reloads, and also redeem free Internet with Hotlink Rewards points.
HotlinkMU are personalised daily deals that vary from 2GB Internet data with three hours validity for RM2 to 3.8GB Internet data for five days for RM8.50, among others. More details are available on the Hotlink Red app.
The company also announced that it will not impose any data charges for customers visiting selected websites such as those run by the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), all state health departments in Malaysia, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Health and World Health Organisation. News sites such as The Star Online are also included in the free data usage initiative. Students can also get free data usage for the eKelas portal.
Meanwhile, Digi announced that its mobile postpaid and postpaid broadband customers can redeem an additional 1GB Internet data daily, to be used between 8am to 6pm, through the MyDigi app. The free Internet quota will be utilised first before the base quota.
This offer is not valid for Postpaid Infinite users as they are already on an unlimited Internet plan.
Digi’s mobile prepaid and prepaid broadband customers will also receive additional Internet data and calls with every reload of RM10 and above. For example, users can reload RM10 to get free 300MB and five minutes worth of calls (valid for three days) or reload RM30 to receive free 1GB plus 15 minutes of calls (valid for seven days). These offers are valid from now till March 31.
The telco said it is also giving free 24/7 or unlimited data access for school children to access national curriculum resources on jomstudi.my, starting March 24. Currently the free data access is available from 2pm to 8pm.
Users can also subscribe to one-month access for UPSR and SPM curriculum on Classruum for only RM1 through the MyDigi app.
For users who have purchased MyDigi Rewards vouchers through the app, the company announced that selected vouchers will be given extended validity until April 30.
It also stated that users can get free calls to all national and state health departments and visit websites like Doctor On Call with Ministry of Health without using up any Internet quota.
