To speed up recovery, fed and state govts need to be on the same side

KOTA KINABALU: A common government at both state and federal levels can expedite the country’s economic recovery amid of the Covid-19 pandemic, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.

The prime minister also said he did not doubt Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal’s administrative capability, which, however, would be hampered following Pakatan Harapan government’s demise early this year.

“To expedite economic recovery, there should be a good relationship (between the state and federal government). We need to bring Sabah onboard so the state can be (more) developed.

“I never said Shafie could not do his job (properly) but PH is no longer the government,” the Perikatan Nasional chairman said during a campaign trail in Kampung Darau, Menggatal here.

Also present were Sabah Umno deputy chairman Datuk Yakub Khan who is running for the Karambunai state seat, PN’s candidate for the Darau state seat Datuk Jumat Idris and Sabah Progressive Party president Datuk Yong Teck Lee.

Earlier, Yakub had said the fall the of PH government had given birth to a caring government led by Muhyiddin, who in response pointed out that PN government had been widely accepted by the people.

“A prime minister who has been popularly dubbed as ‘Abah’. Well, that (label) is neither from me, nor I am (using) to boast about myself.

“It has never crossed my mind that a 73-year-old man like me would be appointed (as the prime minister).

“But just like what Yakub had said, it is something that has been arranged by God, that I am to be tasked with the responsibility to face extraordinary challenges,” Muhyiddin said.
